Down East Community Hospital’s Rehabilitation Department hosted its first open house on Friday to meet and greet local providers, hospital trustees, and department leaders and to proudly show their new space. 

April is National Donate Life Month and Down East Community Hospital along with its specialty and family practices in Machias, Jonesport, and Milbridge have been busy bringing awareness to this very important cause.

Machias – Down East Community Hospital is the proud recipient of a $25,000 donation from Wyman’s of Maine.

A special luncheon took place at the Bluebird Restaurant last week to congratulate the Emergency Department Expansion Capital Campaign Committee on reaching their $1.5 million goal and to thank them for all of their hard work throughout the year.

Machias – Lisa Seeley, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of Bangor Savings Bank’s Machias and Jonesport offices, presents DECH CEO, Dennis Welsh with a $30,000 donation for the Emergency Department expansion project.

Machias – George and Mary Beth (Bagley) Gaddis generously contributed $10,000.00 toward the Emergency Department expansion project at Down East Community Hospital.  This act of kindness should come to no surprise to those who know the Gaddis’ who have contributed to many community projects over the years.  George and Mary Beth both have deep roots in the community and are deeply committed to the area and to the people who live here. 

Machias -Down East Community Hospital held a beam signing ceremony on Wednesday, January 18, just before the last steel beam was put into place at the Emergency Department construction site.  Karl Ward, President/C.E.O. of Nickerson & O’Day, Inc., as well as Hospital CEO, Dennis Welsh, and Board Chair, David Whitney, spoke about the features of the project and the tradition of the beam raising ceremony. After the ceremony, people lined up to sign the beam and then waited until the beam, adorned with the U.S. flag, the state flag, and a tree, was hoisted to the top of the structure and put into place.   Many people who had donated funds to the project were present to sign the beam including some members of the Machias Rotary which had donated $2,500 to the Emergency Department Expansion Project.

Machias – On January 8 at 8:46 am, Sage Neptune of Pleasant Point delivered the first baby born at Down East Community Hospital for 2017.  Caleb, the very handsome son of Sage Neptune and Tyler Davis, weighed in at a healthy 9 lbs., 3 ozs.  He is the third grandchild of Wilfred and Patricia Neptune and the first grandchild of Erica and Brian Davis.
