Bangor Savings Bank Donates $30,000 to DECH Campaign

Machias – Lisa Seeley, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of Bangor Savings Bank’s Machias and Jonesport offices, presents DECH CEO, Dennis Welsh with a $30,000 donation for the Emergency Department expansion project.

Generosity of Local Family Spans Decades

Machias – George and Mary Beth (Bagley) Gaddis generously contributed $10,000.00 toward the Emergency Department expansion project at Down East Community Hospital.  This act of kindness should come to no surprise to those who know the Gaddis’ who have contributed to many community projects over the years.  George and Mary Beth both have deep roots in the community and are deeply committed to the area and to the people who live here. 

Machias Rotary Signs ED Beam at DECH Ceremony

Machias -Down East Community Hospital held a beam signing ceremony on Wednesday, January 18, just before the last steel beam was put into place at the Emergency Department construction site.  Karl Ward, President/C.E.O. of Nickerson & O’Day, Inc., as well as Hospital CEO, Dennis Welsh, and Board Chair, David Whitney, spoke about the features of the project and the tradition of the beam raising ceremony. After the ceremony, people lined up to sign the beam and then waited until the beam, adorned with the U.S. flag, the state flag, and a tree, was hoisted to the top of the structure and put into place.   Many people who had donated funds to the project were present to sign the beam including some members of the Machias Rotary which had donated $2,500 to the Emergency Department Expansion Project.

DECH Welcomes the First Baby of the New Year

Machias – On January 8 at 8:46 am, Sage Neptune of Pleasant Point delivered the first baby born at Down East Community Hospital for 2017.  Caleb, the very handsome son of Sage Neptune and Tyler Davis, weighed in at a healthy 9 lbs., 3 ozs.  He is the third grandchild of Wilfred and Patricia Neptune and the first grandchild of Erica and Brian Davis. 

Hannaford Foundation Donates $15,000 DECH Expansion

Machias – Associates at Hannaford’s proudly stand with DECH Board Chair and campaign Co-Chair, David Whitney to commemorate the $15,000 donation given to the DECH ED Expansion project by the Hannaford Charitable Foundation.

Hoops for Health – A Tournament for the DECH Emergency Department Expansion

Machias – On December 2nd and 3rd, the first ever, Down East Community Hospital’s Hoops for Health Basketball Tournament will be held at the University of Maine, Machias gymnasium. There will be four games on Friday, starting at 4:30, then four more games on Saturday beginning at 10 am, featuring the girls and boys varsity teams from Machias, East Machias, Narraguagus and Jonesport Beals.  There will also be a basketball exhibition by local varsity stars of the future. You’ll want to come early and look over the large selection of auction items, enjoy some great food from the concession stand, and settle in for a pre-season preview of Washington County high school hoops.  

DECH and AMMC Sign Partnership Agreement

On Friday, October 28, Down East Community Hospital and Arnold Memorial Medical Center signed a partnership agreement.  With the agreement, Dr. Steven Weisberger’s primary care practice will become a department of Down East Community Hospital and he and his staff will become part of the DECH family.  The transition of Dr. Weisberger and his staff to become employees of the Down East Community Hospital is in process with an expected go-live date of February 1, 2017.  Dr. Weisberger will continue to see patients at Arnold Memorial Medical Center. 

Survivor Makes First Donation to Community Phase of Capital Campaign

Machias – On Wednesday, October 26, Down East Community Hospital and Machias Savings Bank came together to announce the community phase of the capital campaign to build the new Emergency Department.  The Capital Campaign Committee had raised over 1.2 million of the targeted 1.5 million by contacting and meeting with individuals, companies, and philanthropic organizations.  Many of the Machias Savings Bank employees applauded the hospital’s effort.  In appreciation of all the widely ranging services, from women’s care to nursing homes, the MSB employees delivered over 250 Halloween whoopie pies to DECH staff across four locations.
