Visitation Restrictions
Influenza and COVID-19

Due to the high numbers of respiratory illness and the recent news that Maine has experienced its first confirmed case of COVID-19, we have implemented visitor restrictions.  The visitor restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

In an effort to protect our patients, the following restrictions apply:

Visitors who are ill with flu or cold symptoms, fever, sore throat, cough, sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, vomiting and/or diarrhea are not permitted.

Only 1 visitor allowed per patient in all areas.

  • Members of the public coming to the hospital can be expected to be screened and asked to clean their hands.
  • Visitors must be 16 years or older.
  • Since only 1 visitor is allowed per patient, additional visitors will be instructed to wait in their cars.
Special circumstances and exceptions
Exceptions may be made for OB patients and patients at end of life or in hospice care and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by a nursing manager.

Why we are limiting visitation to those 16 and under
The flu is highly contagious, and children are at higher risk for complications from influenza. Children tend to spread the virus easily as they share close social proximity with each other in school classrooms. It can easily move from child to child as they share things like toys, pencils, and workspaces. This will help limit the spread of the virus to vulnerable populations.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
