COVID-19

Down East Community Hospital and its physician practices are following all Coronavirus precautions and guidelines outlined by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).  Education regarding the CDCs recommendations as to how to handle this viral disease has been provided to our staff.

Our clinical areas are equipped with the proper protective equipment.  Our Infection Prevention Department continues to monitor all communication coming from the CDC, Maine Hospital Association, and Maine Health Alert Network to ensure that staff is continually updated and prepared.

For up to date information on COVID-19, go to Maine CDC’s COVID-19 website at www.maine.gov/dhhs/coronavirus or call the Maine CDC at 1-800-821-5821.

We have a COVID-19 Task Force that meets daily.  That task force is comprised of the Senior Leadership Team, Infection Prevention, Quality and representatives from nurse management, provider practices, laboratory, materials, support services, and others.   This group continually reviews and implements processes related to COVID-19.

We implemented visitation restrictions on March 11 and have updated accordingly.  As of March 20, 2020, the restrictions are as follows.

New visiting hours of 10am to 4pm have been implemented and will be strictly enforced.

Restrictions of one visitor per patient at the hospital and all practices has been put into place.

All patients and visitors will be screened at point of entry.  At the hospital, the points of entry are the double doors to the main lobby and the double doors to the foyer of the entry to the Emergency Department.

·         Visitors who are ill with cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting and/or diarrhea are not permitted.

·         Only 1 Visitor allowed per patient in all areas.  Additional visitors will be asked to wait in their cars. Exceptions can be made with OB, Pediatrics, and Comfort Care.

Patients, visitors, and employees are required to gel at entry points, and must wear a mask if screening indicates that is necessary.  The Emergency Department has initiated a screening process for patient’s and visitors that takes place in the foyer of the Waiting Room.

All outside meetings have been cancelled or postponed.  All meetings within the organization have been downsized to those that are required for reporting purposes and can maintain recommended social distancing.  The Board meeting, as well as other Board level meetings, are held electronically.
