Pastoral Services at DECH
Down East Community Hospital’s Pastoral Care Services is a listening ministry that provides support to patients and family members during times of stress and crisis. This includes:
Respect for the religious position of each person and a non-judgmental presence
Support to those who have no religious affiliation
Respect for the patient’s right to confidentiality
We do not “preach” but will help connect a person to their own spiritual path. Visits may simply provide companionship and a listening ear. If desired, visits may provide prayer and/or sacrament.
Patients and families speak with their nurse or case manager to request a visit from:
The Chaplain on-call
Their own Pastor
A member of their faith community
Down East Community Hospital’s beautiful interfaith Chapel is open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation. Occasional worship services are held for patients, families, hospital employees, and residents of the Maine Veteran’s Home.
Supported by funds raised from the community, the Chapel opened in December 2007. Lovely hand-made pews and the Clifford E. Pennell Memorial Stained Glass Window crafted by local artisan, Mark Wrenn, create a soothing and spiritual space for comfort and healing.
