DECH_er.jpgDown East Community Hospital’s Emergency Department is a 6 bed, level III facility. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide comprehensive emergency medical treatment. What to Expect
Whether a patient arrives by ambulance or enters through the Emergency room door, a Registered Nurse is there to immediately assess the patient’s needs.

Please note that patients are seen in priority of their condition or severity of symptoms. This may mean that patients who arrive after you and have more critical issues may be seen before you. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

When a patient enters a treatment room, a nurse will evaluate the illness or injury by asking a series of questions. He or she will check vital signs and begin any necessary testing such as blood tests or x-rays.

As soon as they are available, an emergency physician will examine you. They may ask similar questions but these questions are important so that they can make their own assessment of your condition. Following their exam, additional tests or treatment may be necessary.

The Emergency Department (E.D.) works in collaboration with a variety of services to ensure that each patient receives the appropriate level of care needed. Should you require specialized services, we have physicians on call and available to provide consultations. These services include: orthopedic, obstetrical, gynecological, urological, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics.

Should you require treatment not available at our facility, our team will arrange transfer by ambulance or LifeFlight helicopter to a facility that can provide the services you need.

Your primary care physician will be notified of your visit so appropriate follow-up can occur.
