(Machias) On September 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM, Down East Community Hospital will dedicate the Medical Associates Building to the memory of Reid Wilder Emery. Mr. Emery died after leaving Down East Community Hospital precipitating the long series of events that led to the establishment of an emergency receivership with Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems.

Down East Community approached Margaret Emery last year to share all of its progress and the terrible, but tremendously valuable, lessons learned from the tragic death of Mr. Emery. Not wanting to forget these lessons, Doug Jones proposed a memorial to celebrate the life of Reid Emery and honor the sad sacrifice and lessons learned. Mrs. Emery chose the medical office building because of the kind and caring services provided to Mr. Emery by Dr. Aziz Massaad whose office is in the newly renovated ReidEmeryMedicalBuilding.

Senate President Kevin Raye, will address the gathering at the 229 Main Street event on Saturday. The community is invited to join with the Emery family in the dedication of this community medical center building. Margaret Emery has said to Mr. Jones, “I’m grateful that the hospital has embraced this tragedy and, while moving forward, will never forget my husband and the lessons learned from his death.” 

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
